From the universe of Riverdale, a town whose origins date back to the distant 1941 comic strip about a group of teenagers known worldwide as Archie, now emerges Katy Keene, a Riverdale spin-off series that features a New York girl aspiring to become a fashion designer, singer, and model.
While Katy Keene is a spin-off from the famous youth series Riverdale, the character is actually much older. Katy was created by Will Woggon in 1945 when she appeared in several Archie comics magazines (from magazine starring Wilbur) it got its own print run in 1949 after popular demand.
While Katy was already appearing as a model, actress, and singer, her comics were unique in engaging readers who were invited to send drawings of costumes, accessories, cars, furniture, and houses to Katy which were then selected and appeared in subsequent magazines.
Katy Keene's first season comes with eight episodes of excitement, music, and joy. Lucy Hale (who played the title in an episode Riverdale) leads the youthful cast. An actress and singer, Lucy Hale made her name at American Juniors; a spinoff from the same creators of American Idol, where the contestants are between the ages of five and thirteen. The difference is that instead of competing against themselves, five boys must join together to form a pop music group. In 2003, Lucy Hale won the contest with her group.
Katy will be accompanied by a group of incredible characters, as viewers will meet Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), a girl who comes from Riverdale and moves to New York to pursue a successful career as a singer. Additionally, there is Pepper (Julia Chan), a hip and feminist girl who knows all about social media; making the series relevant to the current times. And finally, we find Jorge Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), a boy artist who also plays a female character named Ginger Lopez who sings and dances.
And lastly, there is KO, Kelly's boyfriend, played by Zane Holtz; a boxer who never hesitates to show off his pectorals and abdomen.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa leads the production team; having previously worked on who is in Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Supergirl and Glee alongside Michael Grassi, also a standard-bearer in the production of Riverdale and Supergirl. Both men have proven to be experts and successful producers; especially in television geared for teenagers.
