Travel to a remote British isle alongside Jude Law, Naomie Harris and Freya Allan. Discover all the mysteries this strange island holds.
Welcome to the British island of Osea. The days of those who come to this place are filled with atonement, sadness and pain. On our visit, we will meet characters on the edge, carrying a burden, seeking something. We can accompany them. We can follow them on their journey, perhaps learning something of their past. We may also discover that Osea keeps its secrets, that there is something dangerous in the atmosphere, that something violent is about to occur.
The Third Day is the new miniseries from HBO, divided into two parts: “Summer” and “Winter.” These two stories of two characters occur in the same place.
The “Summer” chapter stars Jude Law and introduces us to a man who is as mysterious as the island. His name is Sam, and he will find inhabitants who believe that on Osea all is balance and healthy peace, that the outside world is evil and that it is necessary to do anything, at any price, to ward off evil and so maintain balance. Very strange things, almost supernatural things, begin to happen, creating an atmosphere heavy with suspense and even terror in both the first part and the second: “Winter.” The “Winter” chapter stars Naomie Harris, a single mother who comes seeking answers, although she may not be wanted there, and her search may cost her her life.
Jude Law is a British actor who rose to the peak of his fame in the late 1990s with such movies as Gattaca (1997) and The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). He has had a prolific career and has been nominated for an Oscar on two occasions: Best Supporting Actor for The Talented Mr. Ripley (winning the BAFTA for that film in the same category) and Best Actor for Cold Mountain (2003). Recently, his face has been familiar from Contagion (2011) by Steven Soderbergh, a film whose subject is a global pandemic very similar to the current one. Over the past few years, he has also been a strong presence with his performance as the controversial pope in the series The Young Pope (2016) and for his entertaining turns as Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes(2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), directed by Guy Ritchie.
Fellow Brit Naomie Harris came to Hollywood fame with her performance as the voodoo witch Tia Dalma in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), and later as agent Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond film Skyfall (2012). Outside the major production circuit, with the acclaimed film Moonlight (2016) by Barry Jenkins, she earned Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category. She will soon be making a repeat appearance, this time much weightier, as secret agent Eve Moneypenny in No Time to Die (2020), the new production in the James Bond series, of course.
Also appearing are Katherine Waterson (Steve Jobs, Inherent Vice, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald); Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum and a recent notable performance in The Outsider on HBO); Freya Allen (The Witcher); and the veteran and always masterful Emily Watson, who we remember recently from her performance in Chernobyl on HBO, and who has thrilled in films such as Breaking the Waves (1996) from Lars von Trier and Angela's Ashes (1999) from Alan Parker.
Dennis Kelly is the executive producer and screenwriter on The Third Day (joined by Kit de Wal and Dean O’Loughlin in the latter endeavor). Kelly has already worked with Jude Law on the action and suspense movie Black Sea (2014). Marc Munden and Philippa Lowthorpe are the directors.
When was the last time you liked yourself? The Third Day, coming in September, a miniseries filled with mystery and human depth. Don’t miss it on HBO and HBO GO.
